Jury is still out but so far I really dig the ripples soulpancake.com is making. Very cool use of social media blogging, etc. Truly worth a visit. @WoodlandsChurch has been posting great discussion questions there. Jump in, it’s fine.

Here’s a quick screen grab of Rainn Wilson’s SoulPancake.com #soulpancake. The site encourages deep, real discussion. Love the angle. Mostly, I am seeing a lot of bickering but some really good comments here and there. Careful not to confuse “spiritivity” with following Christ. Fine line. Know where it is.

Series art for “Where The Wild Things Are” Capturing the Wonder of an Untamed God. We had a ton of fun shooting for this one. The original story was written by Maurice Sendak. You can check out the new movie trailer here http://wherethewildthingsare.warnerbros.com/. Woodlands Church is kicking off the new series right after Easter! The video team is working on the promo video now and we should have a link soon to preview. By the way, the kids in the shot are Blakers and Savannah, they did an amazing job. Also, we had a seriously talented team involved in this project: Justin Keller, Roy Ford, Toby Canning and Charles Booth. Very very fun. Here are some shots.

Just a quick screen capture of the live Sunday service webcast from Harvest.org.

It’s great to see churches broadcast their service over the Internet. I wanted to see the camera angles, shots, etc. It’s always interesting to see how much effort goes into different church web casts. LifeChurch.tv goes all out with an Internet Campus pastor and the option to choose worship services and more. Newspring.cc recently launched their new Internet campus a month or so ago.

So when are we launching? That’s the question. Submitting the details for our 2009 vision and goals next week. Fun stuff.

Still bringing it. LifeChurch.tv Internet Campus.

Great article about Kerry and the church. Very cool.

Kerry Shook, Pastor of Fellowship of the Woodlands in Houston TX kicked off this year’s Keynote sessions at the NRB with a message about how God wants to use the same process seen in Genesis Chapter 1 in our lives and ministries.

There are essentially six steps in the process according to Pastor Shook. These steps are Light, Land Life, Likeness, Leverage and Limits.

  1. Light. The first thing God created was light. Light represents an idea from God. Pastor Shook talked about how churches today use very little creativity or resources in getting their message out. He then shared a story about a crazy Idea his team had for one of his series. Pastor Shook and his team were trying to come up with creative illustrations about the cross. Someone had the idea to use motocross and to bring in a professional motocross driver to jump over the pastor, right on stage. He said the whole stunt lasted only three minutes, but after the sermon, over 300 people gave their hearts to the Lord, including the motocross driver.“We vastly underestimate the power of one idea,”  said Shook.
  2. Land. Land is the opportunities we are given on this earth. One of the “territories” not being reached today is the next generation.
  3. Life. Life represents the passion that is in our hearts. We must have passion for what we do. We can have all the ideas and opportunities in the world and it will all be for nothing if the passion in our hearts does not match.
  4. Likeness. God created man in his own image. We were created to be like Him. The fourth step in the process is a life change. If an idea is from God, the evidence will be changed lives and the first life that will be changed is our own. We must also be authentic because a life change is always authentic. One of the ways that Pastor Shook has challenged his church to be authentic is through a 30 days to live challenge in which participants lived their lives as if it were the last 30 days they had to live.  Shook says “Unchurched people want a challenge worthy of their lives.”
  5. Leverage. After God created Adam and Eve, he told them to be fruitful and multiply. God wants our ministries to be fruitful and to multiply them.
  6. Limits. The Bible says that on the 7th day, God rested. The last piece of the puzzle is knowing our limits.  Our own ideas cannot change one life.

Lots of fun today shooting photos for April. She is playing live on air in San Antonio this weekend and needed some fresh photos for her press kit. Also snagged some great photos of Myra and the kids. April is an amazing songwriter, guitar player and singer. Her grandfather played with Willy Nelson back in the day. She learned most of what she knows from her Dad or “Glenn Boogie”.

Link to her site and music online coming soon. Check back for details. For now, check out some of the other photos:

Check out the request for proposals for creatives. Interesting projects and grants for organizations investing in expanding the creative arts; film, photography, design and more. The site also covers projects for technology, research and development, government, professional; all kinds of cool stuff. I bet Woodlands Church could apply for the $15,000 short film grant for creating educational programs promoting film. Anyway, good stuff, good site.

I just downloaded the new LimeWire software. It’s pretty cool actually. It’s a peer to peer file sharing application that really picks up where Napster left off and it does not hammer you with ads.

This file sharing network quickly replaced the famous old Napster after it has been shut down and is now more popular than ever..

The new cleaned up Java interface in version 4.1  of Limewire looks way better than earlier versions. You know it’s made for the business of exchanging files and nothing distracts from that goal.

Because it is written in Java it can be used on any Operating System where java can be installed. That includes Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Unix and Solaris.

This has also disadvantages. It needs Java to run. That means you should take care that you always have the latest version of Java installed on your computer and it’s quite “resource heavy”.

Another reason for it’s success might be, that it doesn’t tackle you with ad-ware, nag-ware or hurting colors. It just convinces with a clear and transparent surface for searching, downloading, browsing and collecting files.

Pick up your copy here: http://www.limewire.com/ Post your comments on your rating of the new application.

About a year or so ago I met the V.P. of Marketing and Branding for H.E.B. Grocery through Blakers and FBA Conroe. Totally a great guy, great family but I have to say meeting him and just discussing design, branding, marketing with him for the oh say 10 minutes or so really stirred me into stepping it up in our organization. It really was not anything Earth shattering that he said or did – he was just a wealth of knowledge and it was kind of like, “man am I in the beginning stages of this whole branding and marketing realm”, even though I have been cranking out design, marketing and communication collateral since 1994, I was blown away.

Even more inspiring, he was most interested in the Church and how it was getting smarter about branding, marketing, planning and measuring effectiveness. I told him I would love to pick his brain sometime and he said “sure thing” and quickly pointed me to his top ten list of books that he gave all new employees as a mandatory reading assignment. At the top of that list was the book Ogilvy on Advertising.

You can get your copy here at Amazon.com. I also added a few other books I found to be awesome. Ogilvy kicks serious butt, they will also be at the SXSW conference again this year or at least their work and employees will be there for sure. Plan on attending.

Anyway, just jumped on Ogilvy’s site and was re-inspired all over again, thought I would share. Love it, keep up the good stuff.

Also, check out their Flickr Photos and their PR Blog site. Very very cool stuff.

Just pumped about the fact that we are moving forward on a new content management system that will channel our content and…… take us mobile. love it. We have a simple landing page for now with service times, address, contact info and links to Twitter, Facebook, Email subscribe and Blog. It’s a start. Also just picked up a quick read (102 pages) on Mobile Web Design by Cameron Moll. It’s really basic but a good place to start. You can actually pick up most the info online with a little google search but I still am a book feen.

Also, just some quick stats to blow your mind as of 2006, Mobile Web Design. Check out the world usage of mobile phones versus the television or creditcard below. Ok, this is cool stuff.

TYPE YEARS WORLD USAGE
Automobile 100 800 Million
PC 30 850 Million
Landline Phone 110 1.3 Billion
Credit Card 40 1.4 Billion
TV 60 1.5 Billion
Mobile Phone 35 2.7 Billion

2009 brand design by: http://spdaustin.com/ Good work guys!

We are crazy busy working to refresh our Internet Presence. It’s been a year neglecting our Internet sites while launching new campuses, book, cafe, bookstore, conference and so on. We are getting focused again to take things up a notch. This is not a final new site, it is just a quick refresh of the site and architecture we have now.
